Dear animal carers,
Firstly, thank you for being an activist for our pets. We, like you recognise that pets are more than just a piece of property that we own. Pets are family too, but unfortunately the law does not recognise our pets as anything more than property. If your mobile phone is stolen or your dog is stolen the law sees them as being worth the value that it cost you to purchase. Around the world there are changes happening to recognise animals as being sentient beings. Just last year New Zealand took this step, lets hope Australia can too.
On this page we will provide you with the petitions that are being actioned for pets across Australia.
The attached petition is a step towards showing the government the role that pets play in families and the request that they support that role by providing protection to families and pets against theft and consequences more in line with the pet being a member of the family than just the cost of purchasing that pet.
If you would like to collect signatures, you can do so by printing out all 3 pages. You can take it along to your Australia day celebrations, pet related events, club meetings, school groups, anywhere you like. If you need more pages, please ensure you reprint page 3 with the paragraph at the top, as signatures collected without the paragraph at the top will not be accepted by the government. People need to provide their name, signature and address and signatures without this information will not be accepted. This information will not be used for any other purpose besides this petition and we ask that you take measures to keep this information secure. You can forward completed signatures to the Petition team , Pet Search – PO Box 837, Blacktown, NSW, 2148.
