Morgan SaintThat's really interesting, I didn't realise that but it totally makes sense...
Ages ago, I lost my cat after moving house with her and letting her outside probably a bit too soon. Anyway I letterboxed, and pinned posters to poles everywhere (in Sydney, also before internet 😊) and she had a collar with tag with my new phone number and after 6 heartbreaking days & nights, I got a call from a guy 2 streets away with a sighting. I sped to the location and the guy is there saying, gee, she was literally right here, I read her collar & now she's just wandered off again. She couldn't have been far. I called and called and searched frantically. I shook her dry food box for all its worth! Why didn't she come to my familiar voice?? I was so confused, why didn't she come to me?? But now I realise she must have been too scared & stimulated to react to my voice and possibly sight.
I returned the next day, calling her name repeatedly (the neighbours must've thought I was bonkers), then I spotted her curled up asleep in the sun under a shrub!! I ran into the yard, and picked her up as she was awaking (I sobbed loudly to the world - I found her!!!) and cried like a baby with happiness and relief with her snuggling in my arms the whole way home.
She lived a charmed life with me for another 17 years or so. 😽
